Top 3 Areas to Rent an Airbnb near Santa Maria, CA

Santa Maria is a California city of 107,500 residents in one of the state’s wine countries. It’s in Santa Barbara County and close to a lot of fun cities and activities. Let’s look at three of the best places to rent an Airbnb around Santa Maria.

Pismo State

When staying in the Santa Maria area you can’t beat a lovely Airbnb in the city of Pismo Beach. This location is gorgeous. Pismo State Beach is the most popular beach in this part of the California coast.

There’s so much to do here. Camping, fishing, swimming, surfing, bird watching, and hiking, just to name a few. Want to see the monarch butterflies on their annual migration? They stop at Pismo State Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove every year from November to February, coating the trees in their black, orange, white, and yellow beauty.

Though you’re looking for an Airbnb, we'd be remiss if we didn’t mention the two campgrounds at Pismo State Beach, North Beach Campground and Oceano Campground. For those who enjoy bringing out their tents or staying in their RVs, these are a splendid choice.

Want to stay out a little late on the beach and start a campfire? Small fires, no bigger than three feet in diameter, are allowed. However, you can burn only natural wood, nothing treated or toxic. Always extinguish your fire when done.

Other fun spots to visit in Pismo Beach include the 11-acre Dinosaur Caves Park, which overlooks the sand and ocean, and another big campsite, Lopez Lake Recreation area. Even if you’re staying in an Airbnb, the 22-mile shoreline is worth the visit.

Do you enjoy water rides? Then head over to Mustang Waterpark, which is in Lopez Lake Recreation Area, for water slides, swimming, and more.

Tepusquet Canyon

Do you enjoy wineries and wine tours? Then find an Airbnb in or near Tepusquet Canyon southeast of Santa Maria. Just check out a map and you’ll see there are quite a few wineries here, including Cambria Winery, Riverbench Vineyard and Winery, clv Winery, Byron Winery, and several others.

Of course, you’ll also be close to Santa Maria and Pismo Beach and all they have to offer. Just make sure you sober up between each winery visit.

San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo is a lovely place to visit and stay just 34 minutes from Santa Maria. There’s so much to do and see here, from beaches to the local mission.

Let’s start with Pirate’s Cove Beach, a gorgeous beach. Keep in mind that it’s clothing-optional, so this isn’t a place to bring the kids, but adults can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. Another lovely beach to check out is Shell Beach, where you can see some unique rock formations.

San Luis Obispo has two farmers markets weekly, on Wednesday and Saturday. While staying in your Airbnb, this provides a good way to get fresh ingredients for your own cooking. You’ll find the Wednesday market at the crossing of Grand Avenue and Courtland, in the Smart & Final parking lot, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Check out the Saturday market in Olahan Alley from noon to 2:30 p.m.

One must-visit site is Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. It includes a Catholic church that still has services, a seismograph because of the proximity to the San Andreas Fault, historical displays of how people lived here in the late 18th Century, and more. There are several restaurants nearby, so during your visit, you can grab a bite.
